Description
A charming pair of late 19th-century French tin-glazed faience candlesticks, modelled in the classic Émile Gallé / Saint-Clément manner.
Sculpted as an opposing pair of rampant lions reared back on their hind legs and tails, each holds a scalloped castle-form candle sconce with both front paws. Hand-painted in rich cobalt blue against an off-white ground, the bodies are detailed with traditional French botanical sprays, floral sprigs, and geometric dot/lattice motifs.
