Inlaid rosewood games box made in France during the latter part of the 1800’s in very good condition. Measures approximately 11” x 6” x 2 ½”.Unpoilt patina. Deep and rich colouring. Rounded front and rear to the lid. Original inlay to the top centre depicting the 4 card suites complemented by the escutcheon and edge trim. All veneer, inlay and trim are original and complete. Lid closes square and true. Hinges and lock in very good condition. The key is for decorative purposes only but the lock mechanism has been tested and is in fine working order. The white solid wood and dividers are all original and complete and was often a feature of boxes made of the style and period. The 4 rosewood veneer boxes are in in superb condition and feature inlays to the top again to represent the different card suites. The box come complete with a deck of vintage playing cards. The sliding case is in excellent condition as are the cards though the original ‘spare’ card has been endorsed to represent the 6 of spades. The box also comes with 3 dices and over 90 gaming tokens of various shapes and sizes. This item would make an excellent gift for anyone that is a keen card player or indeed it could be put to very good use as a jewellery box. Unpacked weight 1.2 Kg
