Antique French Renaissance carved bedroom suite - Barely Twist Armoire, double bed frame, bedroom chairs and pot cupboard. Offering for sale this stunning and substantial antique bedroom suite crafted in richly toned dark oak featuring exceptional hand carved detail throughout. Boasting classic craftsmanship with thick barely twist columns and deep relief carvings. . French armoire - beautifully carved single wardrobe with a full length mirror featuring a large pediment or crown, flanked by imposing barely twist columns, large carved finials and lower drawer. Original key included and the lock works! Hanging rail inside. Very good antique condition. Structurally sound with age related wear consistent with genuine antique furniture. The mirror has light marks / foxing. Signs of old worm, treated thoroughly out of caution. . The double bed frame has a carved panelled headboard, footboard and side rails. The bed features substantial panelled side rails with carved foliate decoration, supported by turned barely twist corner posts and a raised plinth base. The bed boasts a large (removable) carved pediment, the crest is surmounted by a finely carved heraldic motif featuring two opposing eagles flanking a central cartouche. A superb quality bed and a real statement piece! Although in great condition the wood surfaces show a rich naturally developed patina consistent with age and long-term use. There are variations in tone, surface wear and age splits. There are also historical repairs visible in places, notably to the lower areas near the feet and base. No movement or weakness is evident and the bed remains solid when assembled. Minor marks, knocks, small scuffs and age related imperfections are present throughout the suite, as expected with furniture of this period.
