George VI Sterling Silver Candelabrum & Candlesticks 1938
A magnificent, fine and impressive antique George VI cast sterling silver candelabrum and pair of candlesticks - boxed; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection.
This exceptional antique George VI cast sterling silver candelabra and candlestick set have an octagonal form to a knopped column, in the classic English 18th century, George I style.
The impressive three-light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit knopped scrolling arms.
The branches (labra) support three panelled capitals, each encompassed with bands of applied moulded decoration.
The capitals each surmount an impressive octagonal drip pan, featuring identical ornamentation to that of the sconces.
This silver candelabrum is fitted with a fourth central elevated capital, fitted with the original knopped finial style snuffer.
The versatile antique silver candelabra can be used as a candlestick once the arms are detached.
The matching pair of candlesticks of the set bear plain panelled capitals, reflecting that of the candelabrum.
The panelled tapering column of each candlestick is encompassed with plain moulded knops.
The plain octagonal swept panelled foot of the candlesticks and candelabrum bear a contemporary engraved coat of arms pertaining to the Senior School of Taunton, above the motto 'Ora et Labora' - Worship and Work.
The base of the candelabrum is further ornamented with the contemporary presentation inscription 'Presented to R.W. Webb by the Taunton School Old Boys Association Whitsuntide 1939'.
This candelabrum and candlestick set is fitted to the original bespoke utilitarian box, bearing carrying handles to either side; this is a rare and beneficial feature for the safe keeping of the compendium.
This desirable designed compendium was crafted by the renowned silversmith Richard Comyns of William Comyns & Sons Ltd.
This boxed sterling silver candelabra and candlestick set exemplifies refined craftsmanship, making it an ideal gift for weddings, milestone anniversaries, retirements or as a distinguished addition to a collector's repertoire.
