This is a hand-blown, Georgian, English baluster stem gin glass dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1740. The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the base of the foot commensurate with some 280 years of use. The glass has a bell-shaped bowl measuring 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is plain and sits on an inverted baluster stem with a basal knop. The stem leads to a conical, folded foot which measures 6.4 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter and displays a rough pontil mark to the base. The glass is 11.5 cm (4.6 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. The glass sits a bit wobbly on its foot. It is made from English lead metal weighing in at 80 g. (~ 2 3/4 oz.).
