Thomas Cartwright [1679-1741] was a distinguished London colckmaker,originally apprenticed in1693 to the renowned Christopher Gould.
By 1705 he had established his own workshop and begun training apprentices, producing a range of high-quality watches and longcase clocks,including rare month-duration examples.
His work appears under several signatures among them ,Thomas Cartwright Londini, Tho Cartwright Royal Exchange Londini fecit, and
Thomas Cartwright, watchmaker to the prince.
He is recorded as clockmaker to Queen Anne and George I,reflecting the high regard in which his craftsmanship was held.
This example signed Tho Cartwright London,is representative of his early
finely executed output.
