A George III elm and oak dresser c1800, with a base consisting of six drawers and two cupboards, with diamond shaped bone escutcheons. The top consists of three plate rack shelves with brass hooks to the front edges, and the backboards finished in green paint. A beautiful piece of furniture with excellent colour and patina, in very good original condition.
There are lots of lovely details on this dresser, but the beautiful timber is the real star. The grain of the elm is stunning and the colour is rich and deep, with the patina that only two centuries of loving wax polishing can bring. The upper section has beautifully shaped sides and a moulded cornice with dentil mould detail. The base is very practical containing six good size drawers and two cupboards. We have relined the drawer slides so that the drawers run smoothly, as they were dropping quite a lot previously. The base has a skirted base with bracket feet - the feet appear to have been cut down in height, but this is the only significant alteration we can find.
Dimensions:
Width - 178.5cm (maximum width across the cornice)
Depth - 53cm
Height - 212.5cm
Height of base - 93.5cm
Payment can be made via credit/debit card or by BACS.

condition
Overall this is in very good condition throughout. The only flaws I can find are as follows: as mentioned above the feet have been cut down at some point in the past; there is a split in the top on the right hand side, and the gap between the two planks the top consists of has widened over time; there is an expansion crack in the left hand cupboard door; there is a small area of loss to one of the central drawers; the cornice on the left hand end appears to have been repaired or reattached as there are some wooden plugs that don’t appear to be original. I don’t think the shelves inside the cupboards are original.
