This is a Georgian, English, engraved plain stem small wine or cordial glass dating from the mid 18th century. The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows the age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot consistent with some 270 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the base of the foot. The glass has an ovoid-shaped bowl measuring 4.5 cm (1.8 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is engraved with a floral sprig and a Hoho bird in flight and sits on an extruded plain stem. The stem leads to a conical foot that measures 6.2 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter. The glass is a 12 cm (4.8 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. It is made from English lead metal. It weighs 111 g. (~ 4 oz.). Provenance: The Susan Tate Collection. With Jane Burnham, Slipper Antiques, 1997 (receipted invoice included with the glass on sale)
