Georgian Inlaid Mahogany Candle Box

This is a very attractive early 19th Century George III antique hanging candle box with an inlaid oval batwing patera to the raised and fielded panelled sliding cover. The box hangs from a shaped crest and there is an aperture in the top - I am not sure if the aperture is original to the piece or is a later addition. It could have been made like that to make refilling the candles easier, or it may have been repurposed as a letter box(for example) at a later time. The box has some lovely details, including the satinwood stringing aound the front edge of the box (where the sliding cover slots in) and matching stringing around the aperture, and has good colour and patina.
