Description
A late 17th Century German silver tumbler, Augsburg c1690 probably by Phillipp Küsel (d. 1700). The circular cup has a rounded base with an indented centre. The body has a textured “snakeskin” decoration below a plain band edged with incised concentric lines. Marked underneath with makers mark, town mark (Rosenberg 191), and assay scrape, additionally later struck twice with the Russian import mark for St Petersburg 1775.

Antiques in Oxford has clarified that the German Silver Circular Goblet c.1690 Augsburg (LA322241) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1690
condition
Good condition with slight traces of gilding to the rim incised area. Accumulation of wear and scuffs commensurate with age. The snakeskin decoration is well preserved. The silver marks are very good, one assay scrape has worn, probably the Russian one.
