Description
A fabulous Chamberlain's porcelain dessert plate with shaped rim painted in a stylised kakiemon palette with a fantastical dragon-bird in an oriental landscape. This pattern has become known as a jabberwocky after a poem by Lewis Carroll. Marked with the pattern number 1727, c.1830.
Reference: Chamberlain-Worcester Porcelain, Godden, pattern number 1727 is described as "Coburg..." (the shape) "...drab & blue border dragon gilt".
