Description
Probably the most comfortably designed Kilim covered armchair with a hint of Howard & Son styling. I don't say this lightly as comfort has to be No. 1, second only to the design, then followed closely by style. Now style is falls into many variations but when you mix these closely together you can find a magical happy ground. This solid hardwood beech frame dates from 1950-1960s, it has a lovely laid back comfortable design with scroll arms, short slightly swept back rear legs, turned front legs in a light oak colour and a very nice deep sumptuous seat. The frame is very well made heavy, good around wide size. The english Howard & Son style country house look, mixed up with a middle eastern culture, design and practicality is a classic all round winner. Originating from nomadic tribes in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries, suzanis have become highly collectable and valued for their beautiful decoration and fine craftsmanship. This particular Uzbek Suzani kilim is to my eyes simply stunning in many ways. From the way the floral design is created, to the wonderful cheery colours on a subtle neutral ground allowing the colours to pop out without taking over. Calming to the eye and with a good selection of complimentary colours to tie in with your surroundings. Suzani patterns are a traditional form of embroidered textile art originating from Central Asia, particularly in regions like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan. The name "Suzani" comes from the Persian word "Suzan," which means "needle," reflecting the intricate, needle-crafted work involved. These vibrant textiles are known for their elaborate designs, which were historically hand-stitched by artisans, primarily women, as part of a cultural tradition. Some of the small hand-stitched knots are visible on different parts of the Suzani Kilim Some of the small detail: The woven edge of the kilim was used like piping by the talented upholsterer. Take a closer look at this detail around the front, just above the front legs and on the back panel. The back panel is done in three sections due to the size of the chair and kilim size limitations. Period: Circa 1950-1960s (chair frame), Kilim Circa 1960s Material: Wool Kilim, Beech frame & light oak coloured legs.
