Description
Attractive mid 1800’s inlaid rosewood and mahogany desk box that stands on the original turned wooden bun feet. The top features intricate Mother of Pearl inlays of mainly a floral design along with a pair of birds and fauna surrounding a key hole. At the mid point of the front and back the inlays are engraved ‘answered’ and unanswered (lettering worn from use). Aside from a very small degree of loss of inlay to the edge of the key hole all inlay is original and complete. Original turned wooden knob to the hinged lid. The box interior is divided into two sections corresponding with the slots in the lid. The lock has been replaced by a previous owner…Sorry no key included. All other aspects of the exterior feature mahogany panels framed with rosewood borders…all of the veneer being original, complete and in excellent condition with an unspoilt patina.
This particular style of box does not become available very often.
Please Note:-
Due to the considerable problems that can arise when exporting any item that contains any amount of ivory (or any substance that resembles it), regretfully this item is for sale within the UK only.
