Josephinenhutte Armorial Engraved Opaque Twist Schnapps Glass c.1900

An exceptional example of a Josephinenhutte engraved Schnapps glass. Made in Silesia c1900 the overall form is well documented, however engraved examples are quite rare and Armorial's even more so. Sits on a thick double series opaque twist stem consisting of a pair of 9-ply spiral bands outside a multiply corkscrew, Solid foot with a polished pontil. The form is often referred to a 'Witches Ball Holder'...which does sound rather exotic but I'm afraid is completely fanciful. Based on its origin, manufacturing date and bowl size it was almost certainly manufactured as a Schnapps glass but could be used for any spirit today. A good size and very fine engraving.
