Large 19th Century English Oak Partners Desk

Handsome, large 19th Century English oak partners desk of great scale and quality, this handsome desk was made to impress. The sides of the piece are panelled, as are the insides of the kneehole which is a real sign of good craftsmanship. The piece is constructed throughout of English oak which has acquired a fine colour and patination. The canted corners are an interesting decorative feature and it has inset castors in the base of each pedestal, making it easy to move when required. The piece retains its original drawer handles and Bramah-type escutcheons on each drawer. The reverse of each pedestal is fitted as a cupboard with mock drawer fronts with handles fitted, meaning that the two sides of the desk are virtually indistinguishable. This large and important desk retains the original gilt tooled burgundy leather in excellent condition. An impressive desk that should be seen in life to truly appreciate it.
