Impressive large 19th century ships wheel, just shy of 5ft.
One of the most handsome, but defiantly the most substantial ships wheel of it’s size that we have had in over 40 years of trading.
Reputed by previous owner to be from an Allen Line Royal Mail Steam ship of around the 1870’s and I’ve little reason to dispute it as this wheel has the quality and charm that you would associate with that pedigree of ship as well as the magnificent girth and weight that one would expect it to have in order to be able steer the heavy and arduous early steering gear that worked the rudders of those early transatlantic steamships.
Solid teak with thick sumptuous bronze banding, bronze barrel and ‘king spoke’ bronze acorn. Ten spokes and handles
