Large Antique York Stone Cattle Trough

A most strikingly attractive hand-carved large Yorkshire grit stone Cattle Trough recently unearthed from the corner of an Upper Airedale farm meadow which for at least 200 years had been its resting place serving water from a moorland spring that bubbled into the trough. This lovely old trough would originally have been chiselled out of a huge gritstone boulder from up high on the fell side. A chunk lost countless years ago is missing from the rear right-hand corner, and is but part of the trough's long passing through time.
