Description
John Cary (1734-1835) was a very famous English cartographer, best known for "The New and Correct English Atlas" in 1787. Cary abandoned the elaborate decoration and mythical animals which adorned earlier maps in favour of a more detailed accurate and scientific approach. His work became the standard which other cartographers were to follow. This map is almost certainly from the "New and Correct English Atlas", but does not bear its date on its face, probably because it has been cut down from a larger page.
