Description
This original Louis XVI chair is beautifully carved with intricate designs on its wooden frame which has been gilded in gold leaf. The chair was professionally reupholstered in the 1950s with a fine quality watered lilac fabric. It has a traditional and hard wearing horsehair- stuffed seat and back.
Giltwood furniture was extremely popular for fine houses in the late C18th and this excellent example comes from a large country estate in Dorset. It is a very handsome antique of high quality.

condition
The armchair is in very good condition with just a little rubbing to the original gilding commensurate with the age of the piece. It stands very firm with no rocking in the joints. Please inspect the photographs closely to assess the condition and quality of this elegant armchair.
