Description
Mahogany Serpentine Dressing Table Mirror, Three Drawers, Boxwood Stringing
A refined Georgian period mahogany dressing table mirror, dating to the early 19th century, circa 1805–1825. The piece is of elegant serpentine form, the well-figured mahogany base fitted with three drawers and supporting an oval mirror plate within a shaped frame.
The base is decorated with fine boxwood and ebony stringing, set within a crossbanded border, the top displaying a pleasing colour and natural variation to the grain. The drawers retain their original turned bone handles, with matching roundel terminals to the uprights, providing a subtle and attractive contrast. The central drawer is fitted with its original working lock and key.
The mirror plate appears to be original and retains a good, usable surface, showing some light marks and very small spots of foxing consistent with age. The drawers are oak lined and run well. The piece stands on well-shaped ogee bracket feet, completing a balanced and practical design.
A particularly attractive and honest example, offering both decorative appeal and useful storage, well suited to a range of interiors.
