Description
A very typically ‘1950s’ Post-Wwii Poole Pottery Freeform vase in the Prb pattern c1953. Hand-made vase with straight tapered sides over a conical foot. Hand decorated in the abstract Prb pattern over a coffee-coloured ground. Impressed shaped number 714 to base together with stamped Poole Pottery mark (used from 1952 to 1955) and painted design marks E/D Prb. The vase is 19.5 cm in height. With its roots as a tile manufacturer in Dorset, the company (originally called Carter Stabler Adams) began producing Art Deco pottery in the 1920’s. Carter Stabler Adams became Poole Pottery, finding success with its distinctive styles and designs. Post Wwii saw further innovation with new designers producing Poole’s freeform ranges using abstract patterns – very much in line with Britain’s post-war austerity. The company stayed on-trend with their brightly coloured Delphis and Aegean series through the 1960s. However financial difficulties led to the closure of the company in 2006 and production of branded "Poole" pottery moved to Stoke-on-Trent.
