A superb Hand Painted Miniature Portrait of a beautiful young lady with striking ringlets on either side of her face and signed lower right with the initials W.R. which we believe to be for the listed miniaturist Sir William Ross who exhibited from 1809-1859 and who in December 1837 was appointed by Queen Victoria to be court miniaturist. The unknown sitter is painted in a three quarter pose looking directly out of the painting to the viewers beyond. She is dressed in an off the shoulder dress with a large red bow in the centre. Presented behind glass in a period gilt wood frame. The size of the miniature is 68mm high x 55mm wide, the frame size is shown below.
Celia Rose Antiques has clarified that the Miniature Portrait by Sir William Ross 1809-1859 (LA316660) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1840
The miniature is in excellent antique condition as is the frame, with no real obvious damage, some surface cracks in the gilding but nothing of importance,
