Norwegian Silver Baptism / Christening Spoon Marius Hammer
A late 19th century Norwegian silver baptism spoon created as a replica of a 16th century Scandinavian baptismal spoon. An ornate knopped stem with the face of a mythical creature at the bottom and a circle of masks just above and a rather dramatic finial of a seated figure lashed to a chair. The bowl is finely engraved with a young man stood on a paved area in front of a grand building with flags on the roof and some fallen leaves at his feet. Made by Marius Hammer, Bergen, 830 standard silver, c.1890-1900.
