Description
This is a wonderfully perceptive study of Salmon in open waters, which captures the fluidity of the water but also something of the long and arduous journey that the Salmon must undertake. Painted in muted tones we really do get the sense of the vastness of the waters and the determination of that salmon perhaps making its way to its spawning grounds.
Barrington-Browne was known for his painting of the flora and forna, particular in Scotland, with Salmon, deer, mountainous terrain and river scapes featuring highly. He was well exhibited in his lifetime often sharing exhibitions with another highly thought of wildlife artist, being Vincent Balfour-Browne.
