Fine quality watercolour of what is probably a village in Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire.
Edward Hickling was born in Nottingham in 1913. From an early age he had a natural gift for drawing and was admitted to the Nottingham School of Art in 1931. He attended for 3 years during which time his talent came to the attention of the famous Nottingham artist, Arthur Spooner. He took the young Ted under his guidance and gave him private instruction.
At the outbreak of the war Ted enlisted in the Army and was captured in Europe, spending many years as a prisoner of war.
At the end of hostilities Ted resumed his life as an artist exhibiting at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters, Royal Society of Marine Artists and The Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He instructed artists and taught on Painting holidays.
His work is held by Derby Art Gallery and in many private collections around the world.
