Original Woodblock of Gimlets Mill, Laneast, Trewen by Felice Lieven Bauwens (b.1911) Signed & Inscribed - Provenance; The Artist

Lovely wood block print of Gimlets Mill and the bridge from the 1930s. Felice was born in 1911 to parents of Belgium extraction. The family were farmers in the south of England. She won a place at the Royal Academy School of art and trained there for 4 years in the late 1920s early 1930s. After graduating, having won the silver medal for painting, she became a book illustrator and poster designer. During this period she exhibited extensively at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the New English Art Club. After the war she married and farmed with her husband. During this period she became a portrait painter taking on many commissions. Her work is typically English with a lyrical quality of form and design. She is recorded on some sites (auction houses) as having died in 1940. This is incorrect as I met her and bought her work in 2004/2005.
