Description
A great pair of Britannia Standard solid silver tablespoons., dating from the last few years of the reign of George I. They carry matching hallmarks for London 1723 with the maker's mark for Hugh Arnett & Edward Pocock and are in the Hanoverian design, typical of the fashion at the time. The hallmarks on Hanoverian spoons are bottom struck i.e. on the stem towards the bowl end. There is no family crest or engraving on the finial. The Britannia Standard was introduced in 1696 and signifies a purer standard of silver than sterling - 95.8% compared to the 92.5% of sterling. Complimentary gift wrapping is available on request.
