A fascinating etching of Tower Bridge, London ca 1910, which really conjures up the drama and business of the river in those days, with its mixture of smoking steamships and sailing ships and rowed barges. I like the composition of this one, with the barge with its crew of only two looming large in the foreground, as they try to communicate with the much bigger ships bearing down on them! Robertson(1868-1934) was born into an artistic family, his father also being an etcher of note. Percy Robertson specialised in etchings and also watercolour landscapes. He lived in Godalming and then in London from 1901. He became a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and exhibited with them and also the Royal Academy many times. This etching of Tower Bridge probably dates from the early 1900s following his move to London.
