Pocket Watch Chain Fob French Opisometer Antique 1900s Fwo

Antique French opisometer (map measurer) fob for a Gentleman's pocket watch chain. C~ early 1900's. These were used to measure the length of curved roads, rivers etc on maps to give a more accurate estimation of mileage (not 'by the crow flies'!) (Please excuse all the reflections/dark shadows in the pictures - was very difficult to photograph). Measures; 4.9cm height (including the top ring), 3cm wide and weighs a heavy 18.1 grams. Chunky big brass case holding securely to the front (behind the original slightly domed bevel edge glass) a white paper dial which clearly shows in black script and Arabic numbers the inches and feet measurements which are indicated by the bright blued steel spade and whip pointer hands. The highly polished back is very clearly carries the makers initials; H C, is also stamped; DEPOSE and has a Trade symbol of a little opisometer to centre. Original steel measuring wheel to base which rotates freely and is numbered; 0 & 8. Screw fit bow which again carries a recessed Trade symbol to top which sadly I am unable to decipher. Excellent clean bright condition with just little bit of light overall wear / patina / surface scratches (mainly to the glass) commensurate with age.
