Pocket Watch: Kay's “Screwback” Lever Pocket Watch

The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement, a Revue calibre 30, which is working nicely. The movement is signed Kay & Co Ltd. William Kay set up Kays of Worcester in 1890. Customers bought items from handbills in a folder and initially the goods on offer were limited to jewellery, watches, clocks and household items. Eventually William’s son Jack took over the running of the business. The company continued to expand and trade successfully, becoming one of Worcester’s largest employers. The watch measures 54mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is chromium plated nickel. There is a slight indentation to the case back and general surface marks but nothing too detrimental at all. Both the bezel and the case back are a screw fitting, a good sign of quality. The glass lens is in good condition, just a couple of nibbles to the bevelled edge. The signed dial has a small patch of short hairlines between 4 and 5, and a faint hairline between 10 and 11. Original blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track. The watch comes in a new presentation box. All prices include UK postage (excluding Northern Ireland).
