Rare 18th Century Cherrywood Thames Valley Windsor Chair
This is a rare and exceptional 18th Century Thames Valley Windsor Chair of the most wonderful untouched colour.
Made from Cherrywood with Elm seat and walnut arm bow, these chairs are often referred to as Chippendale Windsor's probably due to the shaping of the splat and crest rail.
Such a large and well drawn piece of perfect proportions, it is a real masterclass from the early period of the English Windsor chair making tradition.
With a nice seat height of 44cm. Circa 1770
It is interesting to note that the same timbers were used on a Similar Chair, photographed and researched by the Regional Furniture Society in an article by Robert Parrott and Michael Harding-Hill. John Pitt (1714-59) Thames Valley Windsor Chair Maker.
