Description
A rare 18th Century brass and copper tobacco box depicting The Battle of Minden, Westphalia, the 7 years war, August 1759. This style of box, known as an Iserlohn box, was a specialty of the town Iserlohn in Germany, though many were made for the Dutch market. The lid features a battle scene to the centre with the head of Prince Ferdinand and Dutch/Germanic writing below. The base with a different scene also with writing and engraved with Rich Bell 1763. Other examples of these, possibly/probably by Johan Heinrich Giese are found in the British Museum & The Museum of Modern Art New York USA. A rare piece.

condition
Condition is very good for its age, there is some visible wear to the brass, resulting in loss of detail to the imagery and lettering of the surface relief, box shuts well.
