Description
Please see my stock page for the largest selection of jewellery boxes available on this website.
Inlaid Regency period rosewood jewellery – work box in very good condition. Aside from one Very small piece of very nicely replaced veneer (less than 1cm x 4cm) to the top corner of the left side of the box, all veneer is original, complete and in extremely fine condition. Attractive grain. Original inset side brass handles. All edges of the box are very keen. The lid closes perfectly square on the original brass ‘stop’ hinges. Original lock and steel hasp. Key for decorative purposes only. The box interior has been neatly restored by a previous owner and is free of tears and stains. The original tray comprises of 16 sections 4 of which feature lids. The highly ornate floral knobs are possibly original, all are in excellent condition. Original side metal handles. Please note the ‘pewter’ beading to the top edges of the tray and All of the dividers…again a feature of many boxes of the period. It is however obvious that the main feature of the box is the highly ornate and intricate inlays. The design of the inlays was popular during the Regency period and almost without exception were brass and featured mainly on writing boxes and vanity boxes of the period. This is only the third box that I have ever come across with white inlays believed to be bone rather than ivory. I believe that the inlays are original as it is extremely difficult to believe that anyone would take on the task of replacing such intricate work!!! All inlays are in excellent condition and contrast to maximum effect against the ebony bands. A box that commands attention and certainly quite a rarity…..try finding similar.
Please note….This box is only available to UK based buyers.
