Description
Regency period satinwood tea caddy in very fine condition. Unspoilt patina. Even colour and grain. No missing or replaced veneer. Stands on highly ornate brass ball feet. Side brass handles featuring oak leaves and acorns. All edge trim fully intact. Lid closes perfectly square. Original brass hinges and lock with a replacement working key supplied. The lid interior has been neatly relined with red paper in keeping with the original lining that was stained and marred the appearance. The base section comprises of the original removable solid wood canisters complete with the original hinges in extremely fine conditions. Remains of the original foil lining to both canisters. Recess to the centre with satinwood surround and original lining to the bowl recess in excellent condition. The bowl is possibly original…the slight mark to the base lining marries up nicely with the foot of the bowl, and the bowl is a perfect fit in terms of height and circumference. The bowl is in superb condition, totally free of chips and fractures and gives a good ‘ring’ tone when tapped.
Obviously the caddy has been extremely well cared for over the course of nigh on 200 years - Highly Recommended
