Very attractive inlaid rosewood jewellery – table box in fine condition. Highly attractive ‘wild’ grain to all aspects of the box, all original and complete. Particularly appealing brass inlays to the top and front comprising of twin brass bands, roundels, 8 pointed stars and ornate cartouche and escutcheon that contrast well against the rich dark grain of the rosewood. The lion mask handles are replacements but are certainly of the correct style and are of good quality….solid brass rather than thin pressed ‘plate’. The lid closes perfectly square. Original hinges and lock. Key for decorative purposes only. The interior features red velour panels to the lid interior and base and solid mahogany side panels. None of the interior has been fixed with glue or pins, instead the wood has been angle cut at the corners, the accuracy of the cuts ensuring that all parts remain in situ. The advantage is that in years to come the velour panels can be very easily replaced when grubby or worn or if a change of colour is preferred by simply easing out the mahogany. Not an important feature now but it WILL be appreciated by someone in the future!! A fine looking box that lends itself to a wide range of uses and a box that displays beautifully.
