Remarkable Antique Solid Silver Gilt Piano Box / Snuff Box with Mother of Pearl - 19th Century

We are delighted to offer this magnificent and remarkable antique silver-gilt piano miniature that also functions as a box/snuff box, made in the late 19th Century in continental Europe and likely Germany. [Video is available on request]. Despite its small form, the entire object is nothing less than spectacular and eye-catching in all regards; the design, idea, craftsmanship and execution. Embracing and capturing the essence of classical elegance, this baroque/rococo style miniature is made as a solid silver gilt box in the shape of a grand/concert piano with beautiful iridescent mother of pearl accents on the top and for the keys. The side of the piano features repoussé naturalistic scrolls and floral motifs which continue onto the top lid. What is particularly sensational and a testament to its craftsmanship is the attention to detail on each part that resembles an actual piano. Each foot is cast with the most ornate scrolled design and the pedals are in the form of an ancient harp. The "cheeks" of the piano (where the keys end) have a scrolled and pierced terminal and the keys are made from mother of pearl which are accented with further silver-gilt sharp/flat notes (black keys). The finely pierced scrolls, enchanting hues of the mother of pearl and the ornate music rack are all impressive in their own right, however, it is upon opening the piano lid that the entire object comes together as a marvellous combination of artistry and functionality. Inside, a small compartment with a fully gilt interior of rich gold lustre allows for some snuff, pills or small objects to be held within and even a functional "lid prop" holds the top open for display. An exemplary piece of fine silver & object of vertu ideal for collectors wishing to add a unique box to a collection or as a most splendid gift to someone very special. Marks are present on the inside of the lid and one mark is present on the edge of the inner bezel.
