Robin Welch Studio Pottery Stoneware Goblet
A beautifully crafted studio pottery goblet by the highly respected British potter Robin Welch (1936–2019). This piece exemplifies Welch’s distinctive approach to form and surface, combining a confident, tactile shape with rich, layered glazes.
Thrown in stoneware, the goblet features a striking banded glaze palette of deep blue, earthy brown, and warm ochre tones. The subtly textured surface and nuanced colour transitions are characteristic of Welch’s work, often achieved through multiple firings, giving each piece a unique and organic finish. The gently flared bowl sits atop a well-proportioned stem and foot, creating a form that is both functional and sculptural.
Robin Welch trained at the Penzance School of Art and the Central School of Art, London, and worked at the renowned Leach Pottery before establishing his own studio. His work is highly regarded for its honesty of form, sensitivity to materials, and mastery of glaze, and is held in numerous public and private collections.
This goblet would make an excellent addition to a studio pottery collection, or serve as a striking decorative object.
