Rosewood Jewellery / Work Box - Original Tray

Please see my stock page for the largest selection of jewellery boxes available on this website. Mid Victorian inlaid rosewood jewellery –work box in very good condition. I will not use the word ‘original’ when referring to the various features of the box as aside from the replacement working key Every aspect of the box is original. Unspoilt patina. Attractive grain to All aspects of the box rather than just to the top and front as with many antique boxes. Inlaid Mother of Pearl cartouche and escutcheon. No missing veneer. No shrinkage splits. The lid closes perfectly square. Brass ‘stop’ hinges in very good condition as is the lock. Damask lightly padded panel to the lid interior. Removable tray with storage space beneath. 19 sections within the tray. All dividers and lids present. The lining throughout the tray and the rest of the box is in remarkable condition. This box has had very little use over the course of circa 150 years. Originally made to serve as a work/sewing box the style of box is nowadays for the most part put to practical modern day use as a jewellery box. The various dimensions of the sections within the tray are ideal for those smaller items of jewellery and the large open section beneath the tray for those larger items or boxed pieces. The antique boxes are certainly more attractive and of better build quality than the vast majority of modern produced jewellery boxes and of course represent a far better investment.
