Description
Offered for sale is a Royal Doulton character jug entitled "Sairey Gamp" designed by Leslie Harradine and Harry Fenton and issued c1935 – 1986. In Charles Dickens’ 1843 novel, “Martin Chuzzlewit” Sairey Gamp is a gossiping, gin-drinking midwife and nurse. This is an early Royal Doulton 1st version character jug .The letter 'A' to the left of the crown on the backstamp was a mark added to pieces between c1939-1955.
