Scarce 1964 Solid Brass Bracket Timepiece, the “peckover” by Rotherham & Sons of Coventry

A stunning English bracket timepiece named the “Peckover” with solid brass and glazed case, by maker Rotherham and Sons of Coventry. This is one of the rarest of the famous Rotherham & Sons portfolio of fabulous vintage bracket clocks, and it is believed that only c4,200 were made by the company, during the period c1950-1965. (These primarily as presentation cocks for the corporate sector, such as this fine example). • An attractive open-faced break-arch dial. • Chrome chapter ring with brass floral decoration, black Roman numerals and matted brass centre. • Original pair of black Louis XIV style hands. • 2 x winged maiden spandrels set higher up on the face. • Inverted bell top pagoda top and stepped-based platform base. • Swing-type brass carrying handle. • 2 x glazed side panels (allowing the movement to be viewed). • Removable rear brass panel with central opening mechanism. • Movement protected by its original Perspex circular dust cover. • 8-day lever movement is driven by an 11-jewel screwed balance platform escapement with Chronovar hair spring and stamped with the "R&S" initials. (Nb: In 1929, Rotherham's became the first English clock making company to manufacture an all-English platform escapement movement). • Military style ‘hands-set’ button. • Detachable folding rear winding key, mounted on the lacquered concentrically snailed backplate. • Movement serial number is: "15969" and stamped "Rotherham Made in England." There is also a brass Courtaulds presentation plaque on the outside of the back panel and weighing over 3kg, this wonderfully robust and eye-catching clock, certainly makes a statement!
