Description
A rare set of eight champagne glasses from the late Victorian era, produced by Richardsons of Stourbridge around 1890. They have a stunning translucent green hue and have engraved grape vines with polished detailing on the coupe bowls. Polished pontils to the base of the feet.

Richardson & Sons, Stourbridge, England, c1880
Period of Queen Victoria.
Historical Context:
1880 was the year in which Greenwich Mean Time was adopted as the legal standard throughout Great Britain; the Elementary Education Act (Mundella's Act) was also passed, making education compulsory for children aged 5-10; and the first test cricket match in Britain was held. Produced around the time of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887.
