Description
A superb set of eight amethyst glass half-pint tumblers designed by James Higan, 1933-1938, for Whitefriars. They have optically ribbed bodies, flared rims, and polished pontils. See Whitefriars catalogue 1938 pattern M2 for design reference.
Date & Origin
Tudor Road, Wealdstone, in Harrow, North West London, England, c1940. Period of King George VI.
Condition
Excellent. No chips, cracks or restoration.

Historical Context
Produced around 1940, a time in which King George VI and Queen Elizabeth were heralded for their refusal to leave Buckingham Palace during the Blitz of 1940, the same year in which he appointed Winston Churchill as Prime Minister.
