Description
A classic example of Edwardian era craftsmanship, assayed in Birmingham in 1902. The piece features elaborate repoussé decoration, characterized by a richly embossed design of flowing scrolls and delicate flowers that surround a central blank cartouche. Its rectangular form is designed to slide over a standard matchbox, with open sides that allow access to the striking surface. The hallmark on the front confirms its origin with several distinct stamps: the maker’s mark "H.M." for the renowned silversmith Henry Matthews, followed by the anchor, the lion passant, and the date letter "c" specifically for the year 1902.
