A richly coloured and atmospheric print of the Doge's Palace, Venice after Sir Frank Brangwyn (1867-1956). Brangwyn was multi-talented and one of the most revered artists and muralists of his time in the early 1900s and did a series of oil paintings of Venice and also illustated Edward Hutton's book "The Pageant of Venice" in 1922. He was a painter, draughtsman and printmaker, and very much part of the Arts and Crafts movement. He worked for William Morris in his studio working on inlay work, embroidery and wallpapers. He frequently collaborated with other printmakers such as Hg Webb, Cw Moore and Urushibara who created etchings and woodcuts from his drawings. He became a member of Royal Academy in 1919 and was knighted in 1941. This print was published in 1914 and is signed lower right in pencil by the artist.
