Sir William Russell Flint - Francis & Jane at Birdham

This print entitled "Francis & Jane" at Birdham was issued by Museum Prints in an edition of 1,000. Featured on page 21 of Northwood Fine Arts Catalogue. This is number 508 of 1,000. Sir William Russell Flint (1890 – 1969) was the pre eminent watercolourist of his time. He was a prolific artist producing hundreds of paintings. Of these about 100 were released as Limited Edition Prints during his life time and a further 100, which he had approved and agreed could be printed, after his death. Those issued during his lifetime he signed, those issued after his death often bear the blind stamp of the publisher and are all contained in Northwood Fine Art’s catalogue of the full collection. This is an unusual image for Sir William, not a girl in sight, but he initially regarded himself as a landscape artist and probably painted more landscapes and architecture than he did ladies. The fact that most of his prints feature pretty girls is more likely due to the publishers finding it easier to sell that subject. This is an early painting, the original was probably painted during the 1930's
