This is a small Georgian baluster stem dram or gin glass dating from the early to mid 18th century, c1740. The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows the age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot commensurate with 250+ years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the foot. The glass has a short bell-shaped bowl measuring 4.8 cm (1.9 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is plain and sits on a baluster stem consisting of an annular knop, above a short piece of plain stem, above a true baluster, above a basal knop. An air tear runs through the knop of the true baluster. The stem leads to a conical, folded foot that measures 6.8 cm (2.7 inches) in diameter. The glass is 14.5 cm (5.8 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a faded collector's sticker to the bottom of the foot. It is made from English lead metal. It weighs 118 g. (~ 4 oz.). A superior example of a small baluster stem dram glass.
