The design of this small Vesta is in the meticulous revival of the Victorian "aesthetic movement" style, featuring a spine decorated with deep foliate scrollwork and covers finished in a crisp, engine-turned pattern. Its structure mimics a leather-bound volume, complete with "ribbed" bands on the spine and textured sides that resemble stacked pages. While its ornate engraving recalls the craftsmanship of the late 19th century, the presence of the seahorse hallmark identifies it as a high-quality modern export piece, assayed in a Portuguese office.
