Solid Walnut Campaign Writing Slope with Secret Compartment - 19th Century

An elegant walnut writing slope from the English Navy, featuring brass decorations typical of this type of furniture. Beautiful brass ornamentation includes corner brackets and reinforcements and a finely shaped keyhole escutcheon. A medallion bearing the name of the first owner is located in the centre. The writing slope opens to reveal two leather sleeves and a pen holder. It also has a mechanism that, when activated, reveals a trapdoor with two drawers.
