Still Life Painting Of Fruit On A Lace Cloth, by Brian Davies
A stunning oil painting depicting an arrangement of fruit on a white lace edged cloth by celebrated artist Brian Davies (1942 - 2004), signed on the front with a gallery label to the rear. The painting is beautifully executed, as you would expect from such a talented artist, and very well framed.
This beautiful painting depicts a still life arrangement of a selection of fruit, including a peach, a pear and a plum sitting on a surface covered by a white lace edged cloth. It is incredibly well painted - each piece of fruit looks good enough to eat - but it is the lace border to the cloth that appeals to me the most.
Brian Davies was one of Britain's foremost still life artists. He was heavily inspired by the Dutch still life artists of the seventeenth century such as Van der Ast, De Heem, Heda and Claesz who had revolutionised the still life genre by painting texture and light in intricate detail.
This painting has a label for the Granby Gallery in Bakewell, which held exhibitions of Davies work, and the original price label. It is painted on linen and is presented in a moulded gilt frame with linen slip.
Dimensions - Including the frame: 32cm wide, 37cm tall, 6.5cm deep. The image size is approximately 18.7cm wide by 24cm tall.
