'Still Life with Wine Goblet & Peaches' Oil Painting by Brian Davies
An exquisite oil painting entitled ‘still-life with wine goblet and peaches’ by celebrated artist Brian Davies (1942-2004), signed on the front with a title label and a gallery label to the rear. The painting is beautifully executed, as you would expect from such a talented artist, and very well framed.
This beautiful painting depicts a still life arrangement of a bunch of red grapes, peaches, a wine goblet and some nuts sitting on a wooden surface, and is incredibly well painted - every single item looks as though you could reach out and pick it up!
Brian Davies was one of Britains foremost still life artists. He was heavily inspired by the Dutch still life artists of the seventeenth century such as Van der Ast, De Heem, Heda and Claesz who had revolutionised the still life genre by painting texture and light in intricate detail.
This painting has a label for the Granby Gallery in Bakewell, which held exhibitions of Davies work. It is painted on linen and is presented in a moulded gilt frame with linen slip.

condition
condition
Very good condition. The only thing to point out it that there is a very faint vertical crease/indentation in the canvas on the right hand side, about where the lower few grapes are. This only shows up slightly when the light hits it at the right angle - I have tried to show it in the photos but it has proved difficult to capture. There is a little crazing to the paint in this area.
